The dissolution of Russia could occur as unexpectedly as the fall of the USSR
The commentary compares current assumptions about Russia’s permanence with attitudes before the Soviet collapse and argues for deimperialization and decolonization.
Russia's collapse is possible at any moment, just like the collapse of the USSR.
"Why does the collapse of Russia seem impossible today?
- Immigrant movements like Forum of Free States of Post-Russia and The League of Free Nations constantly declare the necessity and even the inevitability of "the collapse of Russia". I totally agree with the idea of de-imperialising and decolonizing Russia, but maybe I wouldn't use the word "disintegration" - it seems scary to most Russians.
- Yes, some activists have created, for example,Government of Independent Tatarstan in ExileI'm going to tell you. But how can it affect the real situation in their republic? And there, by the way, are drones that attack Ukraine every day. And the number of contractors from Tatarstan is one of the highest in Russia.
- There are also movements in political migration "Freedom of the Republic" and "The Free StormI'm going to tell you. Their leaders proclaim beautiful declarations about the future independence of their republics, but they do not seem to notice that today the number of contractors for the war in Ukraine is constantly increasing".
You can agree with some of the facts cited by the author of the article, but there are also other points that should be kept secret for now; as for the work being carried out in the districts and cities of Tatarstan - as well as in other regions of the Russian Federation where Tatars live compactly - we cannot publicly disclose its details. By the way, the Tatar national movement acted in a similar way even before the collapse of the Soviet Union.
