Every year, during the third week of July, the United States observes Captive Nations Week, associated with Public Law 86-90.

The law was enacted on July 17, 1959, when President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed a congressional resolution into law.

The text identifies a number of peoples and territories described as “captive nations.” Among them is Idel-Ural, alongside Tibet, Cossackia, Turkestan, the countries of Eastern Europe, and regions of the Soviet Union.

Some of the peoples and republics named in the document later achieved independence, while other territories remain under colonial domination and/or occupation to this day.

On the occasion of this significant week, leaders and representatives of different peoples around the world expressed their messages, appeals, and words of gratitude in support of freedom and the right of nations to determine their own future.

Together, we are stronger!
