The Declarations of Sovereignty of 1990: 36 Years Later

Thirty-six years ago, on September 20, 1990, the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the Udmurt Republic was adopted. Udmurtia proclaimed itself a sovereign state.
Earlier that same year, on August 30, the Republic of Tatarstan had adopted its own Declaration of State Sovereignty, likewise proclaiming itself a sovereign state.
In 1990, all the national republics adopted declarations of state sovereignty. The republics held hopes for a bright, independent future.
But Moscow disregarded and trampled upon all these declarations. Its imperial nature quickly revealed itself. All vestiges of the republics' sovereignty were destroyed.
Today, the republics are colonies of Russia; Moscow acts as the metropole, while our states remain occupied, enslaved, disenfranchised, and suppressed.
Moscow plunders the republics and drains them of all their resources. Trillions of rubles flow to Moscow, leaving our republics in poverty.
The only way out of this situation is the decolonization and de-imperialization of Russia, and the restoration of state sovereignty, the right to self-determination, and the independence of our republics!
Sincerely,
Marat Akhmerov,
Deputy Prime Minister for Legal and Legislative Affairs, Government of Independent Tatarstan in Exile
