The Government of Independent Tatarstan in Exile received with deep concern and indignation the news of the foiling of an attempted assassination of Ahmad Ahmadov — President of the World Congress of the Peoples of Dagestan, President of the K-1 Federation of Ukraine, and a public figure who has consistently advocated for the freedom of Dagestan and all the peoples of the Caucasus.
According to the Security Service of Ukraine, a Russian intelligence operative was detained in Kyiv while preparing, on orders from the FSB, an armed attack against Ahmad Ahmadov.
Earlier, Ukraine also foiled an attempted attack against Akhmed Zakayev, Prime Minister of the Government of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria.
We regard these acts as acts of state terrorism by the Russian Federation.
These are not merely attempts to assassinate individuals. They are a deliberate attack on national liberation movements and an attempt to silence those who speak about the right of peoples to freedom, self-determination, and independence from the Russian Empire.
We declare:
- Russia continues the practice of political assassinations abroad. The Kremlin is exporting methods of domestic terror — persecution, abductions, and killings of political opponents — onto the territory of sovereign states.
- The purpose of these crimes is to intimidate us. For centuries, the Russian imperial system has sought to destroy the aspirations of our peoples for freedom through repression, deportations, and killings. It has failed and it will not succeed.
- The assassination attempt against Ahmad Ahmadov is an attack against all of us. When an attempt is made to kill a Dagestani leader because of his political position, it is a threat to Tatars, Chechens, Circassians, Ingush, Bashkirs, and all peoples subjugated by Russia.
The Government of Independent Tatarstan in Exile expresses its full solidarity with Ahmad Ahmadov, the people of Dagestan, and all colonized peoples.
We express our sincere gratitude to the Security Service of Ukraine, the National Police of Ukraine, and the entire Ukrainian people. Ukraine today is not only a shield protecting Europe from Russian aggression, but also the only space where the voices of peoples subjugated by Russia can be heard freely.
We warn those who organized these crimes in Moscow: you will not stop the course of history through terror.
An idea of freedom cannot be killed.
We will not be silenced. Dagestan, Tatarstan, and other republics will be independent! And our peoples will be free.
